Opened to the public in 1906, this expansive Japanese garden spans 175,000 square meters. It's a cultural landscape representative of Yokohama and has been designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty. The stunning aesthetic of the garden, featuring ancient temples, pagodas, buildings, pavilions, and teahouses collected from Kyoto, Kamakura, and other areas, is a highlight. Unlike the vibrant illuminations of Minato Mirai, the garden's minimal lighting creates a mysterious world, illuminating the ancient buildings, trees, and ponds. The garden is open at night several times a year, attracting many visitors with limited-time events such as plum blossom viewing, firefly nights, moon viewing, and autumn foliage illuminations. The illuminated three-story pagoda (formerly the Tomyo-ji Temple pagoda) towering across the pond creates a particularly iconic nightscape. Visitors can also fully enjoy the atmospheric evenings accompanied by koto and gagaku music.
