Completed in 1961 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Yokohama Port’s opening, this symbol of Yokohama began its illuminations in 1989. After its closure during city-led renovations, the tower reopened in 2009 and also underwent a complete renovation in 2022. The observation decks, located on the top two 29th and 30th floors, offer 360-degree panoramic views. Visitors can enjoy a variety of Yokohama's iconic night views, from Minato Mirai to Yamashita Park and the Hikawa Maru ocean liner below, and even the orange glow of Honmoku Pier and the Yokohama Bay Bridge. The tower also boasts a number of interactive features, including a thrilling glass floor and a media art gallery that projects artworks onto the night view. Designated as a “Night View Heritage of Japan” in 2025, the tower is easily accessible from Yamashita Park and Chinatown, making it a facility offering panoramic views of Yokohama Port at night that is definitely worth visiting.
