Yokohama Kuan Ti Miao was the first temple built in Japan by Chinese migrants in 1871. Dedicated to Guan Yu, the famous warrior from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it is a prestigious place of worship, venerated as the god of business prosperity, good fortune, learning, and military success. While it has repeatedly been damaged or completely destroyed by earthquakes, wars, and fires, the current fourth-generation temple was rebuilt, carrying on the noble spirit and accomplishments of Kuan Ti worship. Meanwhile, Pailou(Chinese Arch)are a symbolic presence as massive gates that serve as the entrances to Chinatown. These gates are adorned with ornate ornaments, dragon carvings, and a strong color palette of blue, red, and gold. At night, the building's delicate carvings and colors are highlighted by illuminations. As the majestic and ornate decorations appear even more three-dimensional than during the day, just looking at various ten Pailou(Chinese Arch) will leave visitors feeling energized.
