Opened in 2005, this symbolic bridge of Nagasaki City is nicknamed “Venus Wing.” It is illuminated at night with three types of lighting on the main tower, on the cables strung in a shape reminiscent of a goddess's wings, and on the bridge girders connecting the hills on either side. While the bridge is usually white, during certain events, rainbow and other colorful lighting is used to enhance the night view. From sunset to twilight, the lights are turned on one at a time from both sides of the bridge, connecting the lights in the center to express the bridge's role as a “link.” The lights dim progressively as time goes by, and at 11:00 p.m., the lights go out toward the two main towers like a goddess closing her wings, creating a romantic atmosphere. Megami Ohashi Bridge is beloved by many residents and tourists as a striking feature of Nagasaki Port's waterfront at night.
