Wakato Bridge

Wakato Bridge:1

This 627-meter-long suspension bridge spans the Dokai Bay, connecting the Wakamatsu and Tobata wards. At the time of its construction, it was said to be the longest bridge in the East. The illumination of the bridge began in 2018, and in 2022 it was designated as a nationally important cultural property. Illuminated in a deep crimson, the bridge makes an exquisite impact at night, with the two large main towers resembling burning torches, leaving visitors with a feeling of depth and weight. There are two viewing points, one on the Wakamatsu side and one on the Tobata side. Numerous benches and street lights in the area around the Wakamatsu bund provide a comfortable environment at night. Western-style buildings from the Taisho era also dot the area, such as the Former Furukawa Mining Wakamatsu Building, giving it a retro feeling. At Oshioi Kuminoba on the Tobata side, visitors can enjoy the dynamic view of the illuminated bridge. Another famous attraction is the “Niagara Falls Fireworks”, which is part of the Kukinoumi Fireworks Festival held every July.
